The Mountain Plane - Favor Precedent

Back

DM

In the steep facets of the Diamond, where a rushing glint of light meets the cold razor of crystal carbon, there is a swirling chaos known as the Steep Ginungagap, a pit which spans across Time and belches up the beginnings of many universes. The gas produced by these upheavals was called Eitr, and it was the foundation of many magics and a powerful force of scarce-bounded creation.

This Steepest chasm protrudes its maw into many Facets of the Diamond. In each Facet, something different occurs or some ruleset is changed, and the Diamond is filled with the spice of not only life but existence in many forms.

The Eitr flows from the bountiful arms of the Diamond Master, from the belching depths of the Ginungagap, begetting being and world. A solipsist seeking more reality, reality which does not require his hard-won personal efforts. The Eitr often materializes new beings to be spat up from the Gap. But every Facet is different. Some Facets wait ages for life, and others will never receive it. In one, the Eitr imbued rather than formed. It imbued the primordial parthenogenic Gap itself with life and sapience.

This self-aware abyss was known as Sessile Tartarus, first of the Protogenoi. It could perhaps be called a living or an intelligent being; one of pure chaos and entropy and disorganization, but possessed of ineffable motivations and emotions. It raged, alone in an empty world, for destruction and punishment, but it desired.

A shapeless fissure charged with Eitr, steam building pressure in a thing scarcely real, Tartarus coughed and inadvertently gave wracking birth to more primeval beings in a geyser of creative gases. Budding and shaking, Sessile Tartarus the ultimate Chaos struggled toward articulation. It did not want to parley. It did not seek comfort. It wanted to create terror and punishment.

Many of the beings spewed forth by Tartarus never survived for long enough to leave a mark on the world, dying in what would seem instants judged by events, but may well have been aeons. Nascent Eros, primordial god of love and renewal; Nascent Hemera, goddess of daytime; and tremendous Pontus, god of life-giving sea: These Protogenoi died at birth, without ever existing in the world. Rampant in energy, they could not maintain and balance their primordial internal pressures, and imploded or were swept away into oblivion.

Two Protogenoi at least were not destroyed. Lordly Grey Oronos, identified with the impassion of Heaven, rose above Tartarus and began to set out orders, commanding the very Facet with his might. The majestic Arcane Gaia, Steepest Gaia, Earthmother Gaia, the Goddess of Earth.

Together, they cleared a space which would not be destroyed by the Chaos. Oronos stood above all, and Gaia ruled all the infinite detail of the livng earth. But the torrents from Tartarus blew often, though Tartarus did not much care. Its efforts were far-spanning, star-engulfing terror, and it may not even have been aware of the earth teeming with denizens, yet it made life on the earth a mirror of life in the Hellpit, and only the strongest survived.

Biday

GAIA

I crackle with Eitr! It sparks between my fingertips. I stand, and suddenly I'm standing on a mountain. I comb my hair, and suddenly it is blowing in a cool breeze. I breathe deep, and suddenly the air is strong and substantial enough almost to walk on. I populate the world first with mountains and vistas and mountain-life.

Biday

ORONOS

My dahling, Gaia, you are my arcane everything.

Biday

GAIA

And you are my stark windswept grey heights!

Triday

ORONOS

What plans should we make for this sanctuary of ours, such as it is?

Triday

GAIA

Why, my first wish is to populate it!

Tetday

ORONOS

With bodies like ours. Only a god deserves to survive these conditions. Only a perfect being, like you and I. Imagine it: A planet of gods.

Pentday

GAIA

I disagree because of the future I see. I look deep into what will be and I see a need for quantity over quality, for variation over perfection. But for now, I think some divine sons and daughters are exactly what the earth needs.

Hexday

ORONOS

Then let us begin. You shall be the mother!

[transfers Norn Favor]
Send my half of the apotheosis Favor back as soon as you can.

Hexday

GAIA

The Firstborn. Cronus is his name. He is the first to populate this world during its sanctuary from the ravages of Tartarus.

[pays Norn Favor, assisted by Eitr Exposure]

Heptday

CRONUS

I am Cronus! I act as sort of a sort of source for Time. I'm not the kind who plays tricks with it...I'm the kind who just has plenty of it. To me Time is a bulletin board where I can paste on anything I want.

My first act is to build a powerful Scythe, because I really like creating. I'm pinning things to the fabric of Time and altering its pattern in everything I do. It's a reaping tool used mostly to focus energy from sources all over the Pattern into the destruction necessary to remove someone from reality! I think it would be useful against both Tartarus (with enough fuel) and any enemies I make along the way.

Heptday

DM

A fitting tool. The elemental chaos is sifting from primordial Tartarus like chaff from wheat, like stalk from stem at harvest; Tartarus becoming more and more vocal and less devoid of personality while the Chaos rages throughout the Facet entire. The Chaos seeks a way to sink tendrils into the fortress of Gaia and Oronos; and you swear that sometimes you hear a dark voice muttering incoherently and evilly.

The new earth is plagued with many challenges. Only a god could wring sustenance out of the land as it is, bleak and devoid of most life. Still, abominable things that you did not create lurk in the mysterious hills of the new planet, and you can be sure that they harbor no love for the alleged rulers and creators of this besieged place.

Hrairday

ORONOS

Foul creatures. Gaia, surely we have resources enough for more divine children?

Hrairday

GAIA

Oh, many, my Oronos! Here is another gift you have given to me and I have borne for you!

[pays Norn Favor]

Five more titanic children we have begotten. And every one a strong male! Titans they shall be called in truth.

Hrairday

TARTARUS

/msg DM I'm not offline. I'm reading and watching. The moment I get enough Favor from heartbeat and games, I will build a prison, a hell, in which to inter my enemies. And of course I'll continue barfing up random creatures as Chaos.

Hrairday

CRONUS

Aren't you going to name them?

Hapday

GAIA

Why should I? They will make of themselves what they will. You showed an affinity for time, you are named Time. If they make nothing of themselves but meat, then they shall remain nameless.

Hapday

CRONUS

...

Biday

ORONOS

Gaia is right. Good strong boys they are, and that is all that matters.

Triday

GAIA

[transfers share of Favor to Oronos]
I will begin populating the planet with simple life: the sponges and insects and trees. Everything will compete for stronger and harder life but precious little will adapt in creative ways.

Triday

DM

Cronus is wandering one day when he spots a strange sight: hundreds of black, char-colored plants growing up out of bare soil on single stalks and stretching high toward the sky. They are growing in rows and bearing an odd fruit, a sort of colorless currant. The fruit is clutched between the tops of the stalks, which bend down slightly in branches of five or six to house the fruit.

Tetday

CRONUS

Using the Scythe, I sweep through one of them!

Tetday

DM

The stalk crashes to the ground. Dark liquid wells up at the base, which is quivering and giving off a sharp, eerie noise in a high register. You can see that the plants go on a ways, forming quite the field or forest, and heavier fruit is in the center.

Pentday

CRONUS

I'm going to HARVEST my way into the center! I'll also try one of these fruits. If no ill effects I'll eat as many as I can hold!

Hexday

GAIA

Oronos, what say you to some sort of nearly intelligent creature on the earth? Something cunning without being truly self-aware, something of powerful but limited body? Something we can still classify as a beast.

Heptday

ORONOS

We have scarcely seen how our progeny handle it. Wait, Gaia. Wait.

Heptday

DM

Cronus, you and your Scythe make your way toward the center of the strange field. The fruit grows sweeter and sweeter; a fitting nectar for a god. And with each flick of your weapon, the keening noise sounds again before the stalk steels itself and ceases to tremble, the dark liquid pooling out.

The moment your sight is obscured, the mood of the forest changes. Bulges like muscles move on the black trunks. The trees whip in your direction, joints becoming apparent. Rapidly, the branches fasten like fingers onto your limbs; a hundred of the giant arms move to put you in a headlock. The ground beneath you convulses and the landscape resolves into spidering humanoid forms, all in black and muscle. Three or four formless, spirey bodies, each towering above even Titans, large enough to hold a hundred of the treelike arms apiece, ally themselves for the sole purpose of withstraining you.

Heptday

CRONUS

Help! I need help! Gaia, Oronos!

Heptday

GAIA

They'd be an experiment, Oronos! I want to try something!

Heptday

ORONOS

WAIT, Gaia! Have some patience! One thing at a time.

Heptday

CRONUS

...aren't you going to help me?

I am struggling against the arms but I am not going to do anything that'll anger them until I have a chance to escape for sure.

Heptday

GAIA

Shut up, Cronos, you aren't helping my case here. You're a big boy.

Heptday

ORONOS

You see? A god can scarcely survive.

Heptday

DM

You are outgunned, Cronus.

+Cronus vs HekatonKheires+
Tier: Steepest vs Steepest
Domains: Time 5 vs Entrapment 4, Str 2
Equipment: Scythe vs None
Circumstance: Eitr Exposure vs Springing a Trap
Spell: None vs None
Insight: None vs None
Allies: None vs Three

The Hundred Handed bundle you up and bundle you up. You are dragged, roughly but without injury, down into the depths of the hills. Here, the HekatonKheires have a lair, a civilization. Tossed at the holdout of Gaia and Oronos by Tartarus, the Hundred Handed explain how they were belched out of Chaos and have crept about the world in as much secrecy as they could maintain. Many of them wave severed stumps instead of arms, but they seem to consider it a small price to pay.

Hrairday

CRONUS

So is Tartarus making plans, or is he still just true Chaos?

Hrairday

DM

"We have distinctly heard the voice of Tartarus, cursing our existence, castigating us, crying for our punishment."

"Cronus, will you help us? Will you work with us to create the next generation, one less ugly and futile? We would be redeemed if it is possible. We have the power to reorganize our shapes; we are full to the brim with Eitr; we want to become true gods as Gaia and Oronos are: creators."

"We ask that you allow us to study your makeup and attempt to create new life!"

Hrairday

CRONUS

You will provide for the requirements of the Norns in creating a new god? If so, I'll help with whatever research you need.

Hrairday

DM

The HekatonKheires will need a small contribution of DM Favor from you to finish this job, as they are attempting to create something new in the world as well as in the Pantheon.

They also contribute Norn Favor and begin formation of a new kind of creature.

[pays Norn Favor and DM Favor]

Hapday

ORONOS

This is unacceptable. Tartarus is right about these hundred-handed abominations. Why doesn't he show himself?

Giants, I order you to add aspects of my own image to the progeny you're working on.

I'll pay the Diamond Master to enforce this contract, that the Favor I provide to them be used only to add my own mark to whatever they're creating.

Hapday

GAIA

I demand to be included as well. Cronus can help to empower the new children, and the HekatonKheires can fulfill their idealogy and help shoulder the costs, but I will be the mother and Cronus the father.

Hapday

CRONUS

...

Alright, mother, father, you can stick your nose in here, though you wouldn't lend a hand when my life looked to be in danger. But I want a Favor from each of you, or I will not play willingly into your hands, along your plans.

Biday

ORONOS

I'm not afraid of what you could do to me even with a Favor. You've got it - but remember who sired you, Cronus, you and your Titan brothers.

[transfers OroFavor]

Triday

GAIA

I'll do it too. I'll do anything to get more variety here with the blessing of Oronos.

[transfers GaiaFavor]

Triday

CRONUS

Let it be done! I bend Time to the demands of all involved and produce a manufactured being, not a chaotic happenstance like has been happening so far.

[pays his share]

Triday

ORONOS

With the Eitr still strong in everything we do, I expect that this child will grow up strong too.

Triday

DM

Child of Oronos and Gaia, blood brother of Cronus, hope of the Hundred Handed Ones. This is Polyphemus...and his twin Culet brothers. Each has only one bloody eye, a red orb in the center of their head. They have been pushed and pulled in so many directions by so many wills - and they are unlike any. They are not divine of form; instead they are doughy and fat, though strong. They don't wield great power directly, but they have nimble fingers and strong hands which they do not seem afraid to get dirty.

Triday

POLYPHEMUS

Haha! This here looks like a...well, a pretty grim place, actually.

Tetday

ORONOS

Betrayal! None of this is acceptable. Tartarus! Do you hear me? You take these worthless denizens back into your doom-dealing belly and I expect you to thank me for the suggestion! All of them! The Hundred Handed, the Cyclops Twins, Polyphemus, they're all out of here. Gaia, help me. Throw them all into the Hellpit.

Tetday

TARTARUS

Is now the time to make myself known? I am duality: the primordial Chaos, beyond all control, and sentient sapient Sessile Tartarus. Feed these back to me, into my prison, the pit of doom and bars of steepest iron and chaos, that I have been preparing since the world began. Feed me, and let us trade Favors so that betrayal is mutually assured destruction!

[pays DM to enforce contract that would transfer TarFavor in exchange for OroFavor.]

Pentday

ORONOS

I accept your bargain. You, I, and Gaia will throw the six abominations into the Pit.

Cronus, if you interfere, I will throw you in as well. Don't think I'll pity you just for being my son.

Hexday

CRONUS

...

I would never think that.

Hexday

ORONOS

Good boy. I will spend the DMFavor for knowledge into their crass weaknesses and how they might best be driven to Tartarus.

Heptday

DM

The Entrapment of the Hundred Handed is meaningless against Sessile Tartarus. Unwarned, unprepared, Polyphemus and the five Giants are all thrown into Tartarus, where the Hellprison is the perfect thing to trap them.

Heptday

TARTARUS

I withdraw from perception, laughing uproariously!

Heptday

POLYPHEMUS

Cronus, I will give ya a whole Favor to prevent this from happening.

Hrairday

CRONUS

They're too strong. Wouldn't help.

Hrairday

POLYPHEMUS

Two Favors. I'd be yours. I'd be your servant, building everything you need to rule an empire.

I'll give you two PolyFavor and all the other Favor I have.

Hrairday

GAIA

I want to confirm that I'm helping Oronos.

Hrairday

CRONUS

Give up. Oronos wouldn't lift a finger to save his own son and he's shown it before.

Hrairday

DM

They will not be interred forever in this way - Entrapment is an applicable domain, there are six of them together, and Steep gods do not maintain losses for long.

Hrairday

TARTARUS

I demand a half Favor from each of them, as well as all of their transferable Favor. Think of it as paying for the cost of keeping you here.

Hrairday

DM

The Culets agree. The Hundred Handed will bargain for keeping either their personal Favor or their transferable Favor.

Hrairday

TARTARUS

This is fair. They are steeper gods than the cyclops.

Hapday

DM

[transfers Favor]

Biday

POLYPHEMUS

I want the same bargain. I'm no a culet god.

Biday

TARTARUS

I don't wish to inconvenience anyone. I accept your counteroffer.

Biday

POLYPHEMUS

[transfers half a personal Favor]

Triday

TARTARUS

I came out well in that deal ; )
[transfers TarFavor to Oronos as per contract]

Triday

GAIA

We need subtler effects on the planet. I construct a race of immortals by age, mortals by power, who draw energy from the earth around them directly. They are godlike in speed, intellect, strength, and extremity, but the strongest of them could not triumph over the weakest god in any measure. They love the darkness and the hills and caves and they love the jungles of shady trees.

What would it cost to make that?

Tetday

DM

No cost. That is well within your own power.

Tetday

ORONOS

But it is not within your right. I did not agree to this. I throw the spawn of Gaia into Tartarus as well.

Tetday

GAIA

How is this resolved? I say I do something, and Oronos says he undoes it.

Pentday

DM

The creation of life is your Domain, Gaia, and so you get the advantage here since you share the Facet equally. You can replace faster than he can destroy. But if Oronos brings it to the point of a martial contest, he is likely to triumph.

Hexday

GAIA

Very well. I shall not replace them.

Hexday

ORONOS

Of course not.

Heptday

CRONUS

/msg Gaia This is a good turning point. Give me your wholehearted support and I'll cash in the Favor for campaigning against Oronos for the freedom of the Giants. Wholehearted support is what I'm asking for peacefully, mind, or I'll just use the Favor and make you help under my terms.

Heptday

GAIA

/msg Cronus Fine! Fine. I want to free the people there now. Especially the mortals.

Hrairday

CRONUS

/msg Polyphemus, DM: I will free you in return for whatever Favor you did not give to Tartarus. I want a full personal Favor or your entire current stock of transferable Favor. This is nonnegotiable. Send it to me now. I do not offer more in the way of guarantees but anyone who does not participate will be left behind.

Hrairday

DM

I will free you in return for whatever Favor you did not give to Tartarus. I want a full personal Favor or your entire current stock of transferable Favor. This is nonnegotiable. Send it to me now. I do not offer more in the way of guarantees but anyone who does not participate will be left behind.

Hrairday

POLYPHEMUS

/msg Cronus Sigh. I'll pay out another personal Favor.

Hrairday

DM

/msg Cronus All agree. You have one personal Favor on each of the three Hundred Handed and the two Culet Cyclops.

Hapday

CRONUS

Step one - cash in this OroFavor. Oronos, father, I am demanding that you hand over that Tartarus Favor.
Step two - use Tartarus Favor to spring everyone. Tartarus, I cash in this Favor you owe me. Release everyone from your Hellpit at once. I'll be waiting with a time wrinkle to preserve your life in the Chaos.
Step three - ????

Hapday

ORONOS

Don't do it, Cronus. You don't want me as an enemy.

Biday

TARTARUS

I have no protests. When the Favor changes hands, I'll take it back as Cronus demands.

Triday

CRONUS

Give it over.

Triday

ORONOS

Is there no way around it? Can I hide it somewhere?

Triday

DM

The rules for Favor are mechanically enforced at the time they are proposed (they resolve in realtime). Of course, you are welcome to try to convince the holder of the Favor not to cash it in, or to offer him a different deal. On Hrairday it will transfer officially and until then Cronus is welcome to assume mechanically that you have handed it over.
If you can hide it in a place no one knows about (with Reality Revision) you can hide and transfer Favor if it has not been claimed by anyone.

Tetday

CRONUS

I do so. Now, the Giants are free, right, Sessile Tartarus? The Hundred Handed will be waiting for Oronos as they waited for me. The Cyclops will rush in with me as I slow Time to our advantage. I'm going for the kill with the Scythe, which will be channeling anyone with any power to help the strike. Giants, consider yourselves Favor-bound to campaign against Oronos.

Pentday

GAIA

I will offer my Apotheosis Favor on my other Titan sons for their assistance in the matter. And joining in the fight myself - I will raise a tremendous mountain, high as the skies, to entrap Oronos as he entrapped my spawn. I'll make that a reality revision.

[pays costs]

Pentday

ORONOS

I watched Cronus be trapped by those Giants. I'm not going to be walking into the field like they did.

I'm also going to outbid Gaia: One fifth OroFavor to each Titan who joins my side instead.

Hexday

CRONUS

Then the Cyclops and I will simply trap you up against them.

Heptday

POLYPHEMUS

Mebbe the Lady would like a sacrifice of all her Favor I gots on her altar? I will infuse it into a gift of the best shoes for her hosses and sacrifice it to her.

And I'll be craftin' four pairs of lightning-wings, which I can put to my feet for real fast flight.

[pays crafting cost]

Heptday

ORONOS

I'm also the lord of heaven. I'll simply ascend right over the Hundred Handed.

Heptday

DM

The Hundred Handed are polymorphous in the extreme. You ascend rapidly, and that is to your advantage, but they have a chance to grab you.

Oronos, the Titans are split between your offer and Gaia's offer.

+Cronus vs Oronos+

The odds are clearly in the favor of Cronus and his allies. Polyphemus can guard the air, the HekatonKheires are ready for you, and the remaining Titans and Giants press in for the attack, channeling for Cronus' scythe.

Roll to attempt the kill, Cronus.

Heptday

CRONUS

Polyphemus, if I win this roll I will raise you above all others, my friend.

[submits roll]

Heptday

LADY

Cronus rolls 20.

Hrairday

ORONOS

Your luck is just the crown on this big nest of folly. I hope to have even more luck! Tartarus! Aid me!

[submits roll]

Hrairday

LADY

Oronos rolls 2.

Hrairday

TARTARUS

You are becoming awfully quick to make deals with those who are beyond you. Move on, Oronos. You'll be welcome here after you do.

Hrairday

DM

Oronos, you are pinned against the mountainside by the entrapping arms. Cronus' scythe moves closer, steadily, carefully, ensuring that you are truly trapped. Then he lashes out, and the sharp scythe splits you from liver to skull.

You are dead. Your soul is trapped in Tartarus and will be much more difficult to remove than a body would. Death is not official until Hrairday.

Hapday

POLYPHEMUS

I'm rowin' the pieces out inta the Chaos and watchin' to be sure they're destroyed. from a safe distance.

Biday

GAIA

I ferry the populace back to earth. I think it's time I invested some stewardship in the place.

I also wish to sponsor Rhea to full godhood. She was one of the Titans who has helped slay Oronos.

[pays Norn Favor to upgrade Rhea from Culet]

Triday

DM

They have been changed by their time in Tartarus. Clammy skin, a lust for blood and flesh rather than mere energy, fur on some of them - the spawn of the earth are now essentially undead.

The gods are in acceptable condition, if a bit thin and starved and restless.

Tetday

RHEA

Cronus, marry me. No arguments to give. Just marry me. I want children.

Pentday

CRONUS

No arguments you say? Alright, give me a dowry of a Rhea Favor and we will be married immediately.

Hexday

RHEA

I stepped into that one. But I said no arguments and I'll hold to it. You have my Favor.
[transfers]

Hexday

GAIA

As the eldest present, I claim the honor of performing the rites! There will be a grand feast in honor of Cronus and Rhea, newlyweds! May their marriage strengthen the Arcane Earth.

Hrairday

RHEA

**dances**

Hrairday

NORNS

Death approved (Oronos).

Hrairday

CRONUS

Whoever you sponsor, I want half the Apotheosis Favor.

Hrairday

RHEA

Well you can if you're going to help with the sponsorship...

Hapday

CRONUS

Wasn't planning on it, Rhea. You're the one who wants kids. If I don't see half the cash from it, this RheFavor is getting used to reduce your fitness in the world.

Hapday

RHEA

You're ridiculous. The product of our wedding night: Baby Arcane Poseidon!
[pays Norn Favor for Culet]
[transfers Apotheosis]

Hapday

CRONUS

I'm selling this back to the DM for his Favor. I am then spending a part of that Favor to enforce this contract with Rhea.

Biday

DM

Please put the contract in more explicit language.

Biday

CRONUS

That Rhea give me half of every Apotheosis Favor she earns. In return I don't cash this RheFavor. Contract ends when I cash it for something else.

Biday

DM

Rhea, you will need to accept.

Triday

RHEA

Ok.

Tetday

GAIA

Why? Why would you go through with that?

Pentday

CRONUS

Well. I eat Poseidon. While he's still a baby.

I take the Favor he started with.

And he will remain imprisoned there! I can't really afford to go for the kill but if he starts showing the potential for escape then I'll work on that.

Hexday

RHEA

Whoa.

Why did you do that? The hell.

Heptday

CRONUS

For the Favor. I didn't contribute anything so that's all profit for me. Plus, who wants competition?

Still want more children?

Heptday

RHEA

Yes, actually. You'll get your Favor, but you won't get Culet Aides. As I give birth to this one, I hide him in the mortal realm.
[pays NornFavor]

Heptday

CRONUS

Rhea, by the power of the Favor you owe, I charge you to help me locate Culet Aides as fast as possible.
[transfers Rhea Favor]

Hrairday

RHEA

**aghast**

Hrairday

CRONUS

There's no way out.

Hrairday

RHEA

The contract is over though?

Hrairday

CRONUS

Right.

Hapday

GAIA

This is silly. Rhea, you're a fool girl.

Hapday

CRONUS

Oronos would say she gets it from your side, Gaia.

Biday

RHEA

Very well. Here's the boy.

Biday

CRONUS

Down the hatch. Again, I take his Favor.

Triday

RHEA

/msg Gaia Help me out. I'm going to poison this next child so that he'll be hawked up. When he springs will you help overthrow Cronus' tyranny like happened with Oronos?

Triday

GAIA

/msg Rhea Agreed. And I ask the Titans if they'll assist.

Tetday

DM

/msg Gaia They see no reason to help. They demand a Favor apiece, for starters. And that's only because you're the one that bore them, they say.

Pentday

GAIA

/msg Rhea I'm getting a bit leery of all this Favor changing hands. The Titans won't help without a Favor apiece. There are only four not included now, of course.

Hexday

RHEA

Once more. Cronus, this will be the child to defeat you! I have given birth to Zeus, and I hide him like I did Aides. Now Cronus has no Favor! Zeus can grow up and defeat Cronus!

/msg DM The baby will also be coated with an ingestable poison that causes intense vomiting. It's my domain so I expect it will work. The baby is hidden in the exact same spot as the previous baby.

Hexday

CRONUS

I'm looking for this child! I ask the Gaiaspawn if they've seen it.

Heptday

DM

In your searches, you actually uncover a few who claim to have noticed Rhea hide the baby - the same cave as hid Aides.

Searching there, you locate the baby, carefully wrapped in warm blankets and chuckling to itself in the dark.

Heptday

CRONUS

Down the hatch once more, blankets and all. Defeat me? really?

Heptday

DM

You swallow baby Zeus. Too late you realize the taste is not what you expected. You gag, but the poison does its work well. You empty the contents of your stomach and swoon briefly into unconsciousness. When you awaken, though it seems scant moments later, your belly is empty and all the children are gone.

/msg Rhea They are, of course, in your possession.

Hrairday

GAIA

Serves him right. Cronus, stop being a bully.

Hrairday

RHEA

/msg DM How long do I have to wait for them to grow up?

Hrairday

DM

/msg Rhea; cc Zeus The children are gods, and of the second highest Tier. Their development does not follow the normal rules. Zeus' player may take control of him now. The other two were, I understand, Culet gods and will revert to the control of Rhea and the Diamond Master.

Hrairday

ZEUS

Allow me to assist with one of the other infants, Mother. I have a friend who writes fantasy and he has agreed to play Poseidon. And may I also introduce the ruler of the World of Darkness, the Master of the d10's...Grey Aides!

I myself will carry on my mother's name, considering she's the one who didn't eat me. And I shall take up my abode on the mountain. My brothers and I shall be the Gods of the Highest Mountain.

Sorry, my friend decided he doesn't want to play Poseidon anymore. I'm going to keep trying to convince him and maybe he'll join in some other fashion.

[pays Norn Favor to responsor gods]

Hapday

POLYPHEMUS

And I'll be the god under the mountain!

As the three of you are all coming into your powers at the same time, you'll need to decide who picks first domain in case of conflict. Domains become more expensive when they are redundant, so order is important. The Lady will bring her dice to settle this matter.

Triday

Contestants will roll 1d20. Highest roll chooses first, and so on down the line. Whoever chooses first may spend as much of his DMFavor as he wishes. Rhea, please roll for Poseidon.

Poseidon picks the sea domain obviously. His focus is on the crawlies, the mysteries, the very deepest depths. He's not just a dolphins kind of guy - he favors new breeds of poisonous anenomes.
[pays DM Favor for Sea domains]

Hrairday

CRONUS

I will speak to the four of you when this is settled.

Hrairday

ZEUS

I will pick up one domain of Sky now that Oronos is gone. I am Arcane Zeus, master of Heaven, but I will also be the master of Hell. As my second domain I choose the Death domain. Everything that is left over I will give to Polyphemus if he will forge me a quiver of javelins of power.

[pays DM Favor]

Hrairday

AIDES

Ah...the new Lord of Heaven...he wishes to drive up the price. Perhaps to force me...to purchase from him, rather than from his betters. I...am Grey Aides; I have seen into other Facets, and I choose...to follow in the footsteps of the Steepest from another plane and not to compete with Tartarus and Zeus. I choose...the Trickery domain.

[pays DM Favor for Trickery domains]

And...I would also parley with the Diamond Master. I ask...for a never-empty vial of an elixer, a slow will-sapping poison which destroys spirit over prolonged exposure, to which only I have the antidote.
[pays DM Favor]

Hrairday

CRONUS

You lot bargain oddly. I don't know what to think about you. I think you should all give me a Favor for security. I won't use it except in case of emergency, obviously.

Hapday

GAIA

Aides, how would you like to add some history to your campaign world? It could grow out of the one I've created!

Biday

AIDES

Yes...every world with a mountain of the gods could be a reflection of this mountain...I agree that this shall be done.

Biday

ZEUS

That's not obvious at all! I'm not feeding your arbitrary paranoia, Cronus, you're the one who swallowed us, remember?

Biday

CRONUS

Oh, how watered down my line has become.

Triday

POLYPHEMUS

Yer javelins are ready, Zeus. I've made 'em real powerful, full of cracklin' energy to drive a man to paralysis or death. Just flip the little togle here.

Tetday

CRONUS

I've swallowed you before and I'll do it again. I am Steep Cronus, wielder of time on a thousand worlds, and your watery worldcraft won't do a damn thing to stop me. Give me that Favor, each of you, my sons, or you face war!

Pentday

RHEA

I don't want to lose my Poseidon. I encourage Poseidon to give Cronus this one Favor.
[transfers Favor]

Pentday

AIDES

I must...stand with Zeus. Cronus, your demands....are senseless. You have nothing to...fear...from me. We should be joining together in defense....against Tartarus.

Hexday

ZEUS

Aides, that campaign world of yours is frigging dark. Would you be willing to pay me for the less glorious kind of dead? I could transfer them to you in your campaign world and you could recraft them into vampires or whatever.

Heptday

AIDES

Make me an....offer.

Hrairday

ZEUS

Well, you'd have no say in the quality of these things I send you. It'd be understood that you plan to recraft them for your own purposes. Perhaps the dead from my world, if they do not achieve the Heaven that I am king of, go to your awful campaign world as their next life.
Give me .1AID for every fifty million of these souls, say. And I'll keep the best for myself.

Hrairday

AIDES

It is a bargain...if the hundred million refers to experience, rather than just souls. Shall we say... 4 experience points or bonus points is equal to one hit die?
I am willing to pay .05AID for every hundred million hit dice...of souls.

Hrairday

ZEUS

It's a bargain. The death rate is probably about 10%...150million people on most planets at any given time. So you'll get your fifty million souls from each campaign world every 3 campaign years, and I'll have a slow source of income on you. That'll scale with wars and stuff, obviously.

Hrairday

AIDES

And my worship income...it will rise as well. Few are removed from what you'd call....the Material Plane...in my campaign world. They live eternally...in the dusk. Most of the population of this world....will come from Heaven's dead.

Hapday

CRONUS

This is exactly the sort of dangerous behavior that makes me suspicious.

Hapday

AIDES

You, Cronus...are merely looking for excuses to support the claim you've already made...Anything that keeps fuel from Tartarus'... hands is a good idea...at worst.

Cronus! Do you persist in...demanding these Favors from those who have not...wronged you?

Hapday

CRONUS

Yes! I do!

Hapday

AIDES

Zeus...approach the Giants...offer them portions of our Favor. Enough that altogether...they could call in the two of us. A Favor between all of them...and on each of the two of us. We need their help...quickly...preemptively...against Cronus!

Biday

ZEUS

Yes! I do exactly that! To the three remaining Titans: "Grey Aides has graciously offered to split 1AID among the three of you, if, in return, you will march with us against the tyrannic Cronus!"
And to the Hundred Handed and their two Cyclopean spawn: "I myself will put my Favor into your hands. 20% of a ZEUFavor to each of you, to be used as you decide as a whole. To earn this you must only march with us against Cronus, who demands to much!"

To arms, Gods of the Mountain!

Biday

AIDES

We'll agree to split any Favor we find in Cronus' possession among ourselves...is that acceptable, Zeus?
Who wants the scythe?

Triday

POLYPHEMUS

If ya want my help, I'll just ask a Favor from one of ya. And a fair share of that loot, too.

Tetday

ZEUS

Yes to both of you. I'll even be the one whose Favor you get, Polyphemus.
[pays DM Favor to buy Magic domain]

Tetday

AIDES

Well done, Zeus...giving the riskier Favor division to me...Ah well, it is still acceptable. We shall pay our costs when the battle is won to discourage...traitors.

Tetday

CRONUS

I can easily outbid them. I will grant a full Favor to each of you Titans! Does any outbid me? I promise to win this conflict through sheer force of strength!

Tetday

DM

The Titans are swayed by both the bid and the call to assistance of their brother Titan.

Tetday

ZEUS

I first send a contingent of handpicked mortals against Cronus. They are armed, but their instruction is first to present him with mortal gifts if he promises to leave the land of their liege lord (me) forever. They will bring gold by the ton and the finest wine. If this goes badly, then we will be forced to fight, and all will remain ready.

Pentday

CRONUS

The Titans are with me as we receive this address. I accept the gold and wine they carry, I drink heavily - and then my own legions of archers release a volley of arrows at the mortals. I laugh as their life is extinguished. I am not so easily swayed, treacherous Zeus!

Hexday

ZEUS

I expected as much, of course. Together, Aides and myself and the Giants appear as the mortals are slain. With my Death and Magic domains, I hold open the portals that draw the mortals to their afterlife. Tartarus is the Steepest god of Death in the Facet, so it should be easy to redirect or focus the portals to his domain. And then we charge! We push all these horrid Titans through into the depths of Tartarus!

Hexday

CRONUS

I call in my Favor on Poseidon! Mighty god of the oceans, assist me!

Heptday

RHEA

Poseidon can't do much - any sort of tidal wave or anything would just rush through those holes. He'll have to be involved in the hand-to-hand combat. His lower body is perfect for grappling though.

Hrairday

ZEUS

Careful to spare him. He wants no part in this, and he is my brother after all. Spare Rhea as well. She's not involved in this.

Hrairday

RHEA

Oh yes, I would flee the instant combat began.

Hrairday

GAIA

Zeus! Hold back! Have mercy on my children. I beg you.

Hrairday

ZEUS

Give me two Favors on you, Gaia, All-Mother, and I'll do it. The first I will use to force you to get rid of the tyrant Cronus as you please, but he must be deposed!

Hapday

GAIA

I can't do that, Zeus! But I promise I'll do my best to get him to calm down.

Biday

ZEUS

Not good enough. A HektonKheire should be enough to hold Poseidon. The rest of us will rush the enemy!! We're going to simply press Cronus into the Void! A few well-placed thunderbolts won't hurt either!

Triday

CRONUS

My archers are firing, of course...and I'll try to treat Poseidon as something of a hostage or shield, seeing their concern for him. I also take the time to send a warning message to myself in the past! Ha!

Tetday

AIDES

And he can have a...touch...of my deadly poison as well. I hope that no Titan will...survive Tartarus.

Allies: Polyphemus, Aides, HekatonKheire, Cyclops vs Poseidon and 2 Titans
Insight: Over the Precipice vs Hostages

Though Cronus is larger, Zeus' army is far more numerous and contains gods of every tier. Many are well suited to their tactical positions. Cronus, it is very difficult for you to use your Scythe - there is quite the press of bodies, but too few of them are yours to channel much into the weapon. The trap is less effective because of your time domain, but Zeus' thunderbolts roar down on you and your men, driving you back. Stumble too far another way, and hundreds of dark arms are waiting to trap you and hurl you in any direction they please.

Zeus rolls 19.

Heptday

DM

It is not long before the fighting forms a maelstrom, and it is not long before that tempest begins to settle. An exhausted Zeus lets the portals begin to close - just after a Hundred Handed covered in scorch marks trips Cronus into the Void, where he falls after the final Culet Titan. The traces of Aides' poison needles can be seen on each, by the trained eye.

Cronus, the falling Titans both cash in their Favor on you to curse you - each taking away a level of your time domain for themselves - as you all tumble into the living Chaos of Tartarus. You don't expect it to be a fun trip.

Hrairday

I'll take death. Just kill me, if you can. If not, I shall bide my time - it is one thing I am very, very good at.

Triday

You slow the poison's chilling effect on you - it is already a slow-acting poison, so this is an effective tactic. You are still imprisoned deep within Tartarus, however, and with two Titans who seem to be blaming this all on you.

Tetday

ZEUS

Now is the time for me to keep my promises.
[transfers Favor to Polyphyemus and Giants]

Tetday

AIDES

The need for my debt was... removed.

Tetday

GAIA

All my children dead, but one. My world I have already given to Grey Aides. The future I think belongs to my grandchildren. Rhea, I am selling my Steepest Tier. I can hardly be called Steepest if I have lost so much. I shall diminish to mere Arcane Gaia, and conduct researches as I wish, with less responsibility and hopefully more joy. I'm bestowing all my NornFavor to you; may you bear many more wonderful children.

This Facet we've built is far too harsh, too bleak and wearying for a Mother Nature. I will seek another.
[transfers Favor]

Pentday

RHEA

I'll miss you, Mother. Visit often. I will enact your researches and make them relevant.

Zeus. You are now the King of the Gods, and I want you to be the father of my children. I intend to have many. And only my children, understand?

Pentday

ZEUS

I don't know. Your last marriage didn't end so well.

Hexday

RHEA

Please? Without you, all my titles are meaningless, and my bonds will become merely superficial. I need a strong protector for your brother Poseidon, and the world.

Hrairday

ZEUS

I'll do it, but only if you give me a full Favor on you to guarantee your good will.

Hrairday

RHEA

But I am Steeper than you. My Favor is worth too much.

Hrairday

ZEUS

The fact that you are more powerful only increases the need for a hold over you if it proves necessary.

Hrairday

RHEA

I won't give you exactly what you're after, I won't give in that far, but i'll negotiate. I'll give you that Favor. But you are mine and mine alone. If you cheat on me at all, if you sponsor any gods without my help and a 50-50 split on the Favor, the contract will automatically be rescinded. I get my Favor back. And if you spend it, I get back anything left plus a full Favor on YOU for whatever I want!

Hapday

ZEUS

Fine. I'll agree. The security is the thing. Call it a pre-nup. The choices around here are rather limited, after all!

Merely jesting.

But truly, Rhea - this isn't going to be one of those tyrannies. I'm determined

Biday

RHEA

Excellent. Oh, did I mention I want this enforced by the Diamond Master? I'll put up the DMFavor to enforce it.

Triday

DM

The contract is for the fidelity of Zeus to Rhea. If any gods are sponsored by Zeus under terms other than those initially dictated by Rhea, a 50-50 split on Favor received and charged, Zeus will forfeit 1RHE or all remaining RHE plus 1ZEU.
Zeus, I'll need you to sign here.

Triday

ZEUS

I said I would agree, and I will. But it's the thunderbolt for you if you betray me.

Triday

RHEA

I can see this marriage is off to a great start.
Shall we retire to the bedchambers on the mountain? I have enough NornFavor... ; )

Tetday

ZEUS

[pays his half]

Pentday

RHEA

[pays her half]

Aides suggested a player from his campaign, a wise creature who rather than living eternally is reincarnated again and again when his lifespan ends. It is he I now carry in my womb.

When he is born, he is a strong child, a thing quite apart from most in the Grey World of Darkness.

Hexday

HELIOS

I am Grey Helios god of what passes for a sun on this dark world. When I am happy or inspired I stoke the steel furnaces in the back of my chariot, and the sun shines its rays on the earth. When I am displeased, mediocre, or depressed, the furnace slowly fails. Either way, I drive my team around and around the planet endlessly, choosing the same path again and again until now I can drive it blindfolded.

Hexday

ZEUS

Really, despite everything, the Favor flows in too slowly. What can I do to beef it up?

Heptday

DM

Gain more worshippers, gamble, go on some quests, catalog events, or ultimately go up a Tier.

Hrairday

ZEUS

I like the first one. To foster more belief in me, I'm going to bestow small portions of ZeusFavor upon mortals, to gain their appreciation. GMs of other games, who do you put forth as a candidate for this? I want maybe five or six candidates. Then from all of those, I'll select one candidate to get one whole ZeusFavor!

Hrairday

AIDES

I know of three... noble... Nosferatu who are on a quest together. For them, portions of your favor would be... evidence of their aristocracy.

Hrairday

RHEA

How about for our son Helios?

Hrairday

ZEUS

I'm hoping for mortals. The gods already believe in me.

Hapday

RHEA

There is a mortal named Torek, and his adventuring party, on one of my friend's campaign worlds. He just finished an adventure arc. It could make a good quest hook.

Biday

ZEUS

Great! Aides, Rhea, each of your adventurers can have .75 ZeusFavor, which I will buy back from them in the form of blessings, spells, or cool adventures!
Additionally, a mortal on my campaign world will be getting some Favor as well.

[pays]

Let me know when they decide what they want to ask for.

Biday

HELIOS

Aides, I would like to sponsor a son to dwell on the mortal world as a powerful hero. What was the name of that Morticia-like woman? The ultra-classy vampire? It is her I would choose as my wife.

Biday

AIDES

Few would deny the sun-god...as long as he refrained from bringing the.. cursed daystar with him.

Triday

HELIOS

Great. I shall name my son after my chariot. He will be called Phaethon.

[pays Norn Favor Culet cost for a hero-deity]

Tetday

AIDES

Alas that the union of god and ...undead...or any other mortal....brings a spawn so much less powerful than ourselves.

Pentday

HELIOS

Favor is limited, but this is a good investment. I want the same thing as Zeus: The worship and belief of those below me. Too many mortals and undead in droves. They are tiresome. They bore me.

Pentday

AIDES

And then the undead grow stronger, and the human... chattel curse the boredom which drives you and your furnace away.

Pentday

HELIOS

Hehe. And then I delight in the intrigue.

Hexday

AIDES

Perhaps... you should do as Zeus does, and award a portion of a Favor to a mortal.

Hexday

HELIOS

I don't understand why Zeus gives out mere portions of his Favor at this stage. Whole numbers are so much more exciting.

Heptday

ZEUS

Uh, perhaps because of the automatic contract? I have enough of those going on. They are mortals; it is enough that they just get a token of the favor they're calling in.

Heptday

HELIOS

I do not see why you fear them. Mortals are boring and can never wish for anything other than the power they see in their sights already: kingship, harems, blood debt. A god of course I would never let get ahold of a full Favor.

I am sending Phaethon with a full HeliosFavor, which he is to give to one of his influential friends as proof that he is truly the son of Grey Helios!

Heptday

AIDES

The player character whom Phaethon met, Luzille Heartsbond, requests the pleasure...of driving the chariot of the sun for a day.

Hrairday

HELIOS

Does she know how?

Hrairday

AIDES

She is a famed... tamer... of horses.

Hrairday

HELIOS

Fine! This will prove my influence. Hopefully she has many wealthy friends?

Hrairday

AIDES

Luzille and her friends are among the wealthiest in the world, since to date they mostly choose merely to sit upon the wealth they acquire in their adventures. For reasons that...escape me.

Hapday

HELIOS

I map out a chart of my route. Give this to her and tell her to meet me on the highest mountain at sunrise in her part of the world.

Biday

ZEUS

Have anyone elses requests come in?

Biday

AIDES

She took the chart, but says she won't need it. She plans to show her friends the chariot.

Zeus, I have one who has an idea, and a few more who are still considering. They all wish to wait and...ensure...that they are choosing the best use of their free wish.

Triday

HELIOS

Oh then I cannot allow this. The furnace's power sears the undead's spirit when hot and its heat bakes mankind's fields and flesh when it is at low power! It would not do to fly so close. Tell her to either consider a different request or keep to my chart.

Tetday

AIDES

She will not budge. She says it is her...single and foremost wish.

Tetday

DM

She has an entire Favor. The rules are clear. If she has not budged come Hrairday, you must acquiesce at that time.

Tetday

HELIOS

Fine! I warn her about the danger stringently and meet her on the mountain and hand over the reins. Beware, Luzille. Be not swayed by the opinions of others or of your own foolish nature. And Phaethon: choose more discerning friends in the future.

Pentday

AIDES

I shall...pass along the warning.

Zeus, my other three players have made their... decisions. One wants to meet you in a footrace. He has five ranks in.... fleetness of foot, the usual... maximum, but this will not actually be a challenge to a... divine being. The second wishes to ask you a burning question about your world: "What is the fairest thing you have ever seen there?"

Pentday

ZEUS

Great! I appear incarnate but cloaked in clouds. I only hold back my speed enough that this man can actually see me beat him.
Then I'll speak from the clouds and tell the second Nosferatu that my lovely wife Rhea is naturally the fairest thing I've ever seen, and that this should be obvious to him or her!
(Ehh, Rhea? That will help with your own campaigning).

Rhea, I am giving a bit of your Favor as an added bonus. .25Rhea Favor I am adding to Torek's treasure that he may find at the end of his next quest. Then I will buy it back from him in a manner like yours, maybe something under one of your domains.

Hexday

AIDES

Helios, Luzille took her own route. The fields...are baked hard. Legions of vampire are now in ashes. The blood dries from human veins all around the area and...the slaves cannot raise enough milk and corn to keep the remaining humans alive. All told...it is truly the most disastrous thing ever to happen in a campaign of mine. I am... quite pleased at the effect, and took great pleasure in enumerating it.

Zeus, let us hope for a war in your world to... feed the ranks of mine.

Oh yes, which brings me to the third wish. The third of my party wishes for...a night in your arms...with a shared bed...where the outcome is a son or daughter with some of the divine power of Zeus. Her Presence attribute is maxed.

Hexday

ZEUS

Indeed, this is not too great of a request, though the fact that I have to expend NornFavor is unfortunate.

[pays Norn Favor]

Presence attribute is maxed, you say? I'll make this the best wish she ever made!

Heptday

RHEA

Zeus!

Hrairday

ZEUS

What? It's part of the plan for more Favor income!

Hrairday

RHEA

That doesn't make it acceptable.

Hrairday

ZEUS

Well, too late now! The damage is done.

Hrairday

RHEA

It isn't Hrairday yet. Rescind, Zeus! Rescind or face my WRATH.

Hapday

ZEUS

It's too late for another reason. She's already made her wish. If I tell her she can't have that, then she'll tell everyone that I suck!

Hapday

RHEA

Remember the contract!

Biday

ZEUS

I can't! This is more important! Plus, she has her Presence attribute maxed! She is a SMOKIN' VAMPIRE WOMAN!

Biday

RHEA

Idiot! DM, I want that contract fulfilled immediately upon Hrairday.
I'm serious here, Zeus!

Triday

ZEUS

Think of the income!

Triday

RHEA

Too much risk. I'm sick of this. Don't talk to me unless you're changing your mind.

Triday

ZEUS

Well I won't be doing that!

Tetday

HELIOS

Settle down, my Arcane Parents. Everyone makes mistakes. It is my thought that these self-binding Favors are too extremist. They cause and incite theatrics and hatred. We should be more frugal and hand out Favors in fractions. We should agree that whole number contracts like that between Rhea and Zeus are bad, and seek to buy up anything that is too close. That's the only way to solve this.

Pentday

RHEA

That just makes this whole Zeus Favor I am getting on Hrairday more satisfying and valuable.

Pentday

HELIOS

I beseech you to terminate that contract. Look at my mistake.

Pentday

RHEA

Yes, that was idiotic, wasn't it. Aides even warned you.

Hrairday

DM

Arcane Zeus, your contract with Arcane Rhea has been called in. As you are deficient in the complete Rhea Favor you owe her, you are charged with transferring the remaining sum of Rhea Favor back to her, and giving her a full ZeusFavor as penalty, as per the terms of the contract.

Hrairday

ZEUS

[transfers Favor]

I regret nothing!

Hrairday

RHEA

Well, here's what I'm going to do. I don't want some dumb watered-down-blooded idol as a stepson. I'll give you back half of these humongous Favor that I can hold over your head if you set that boy's divine thread glowing golden. You're paying for it, but I'm picking the player, because YOU are the transgressor here. Friend of mine wants a way into the Diamond Pantheon and this would be perfect.

To be clear:
I'll give you half a ZeusFavor to raise your bastard child to at least Campaign God and bring him to this mountain to live.
OR
I'll use the entire ZeusFavor to do something truly horrible.

Additionally:
You're not getting anything out of me ever again. I am from now on frigid and cold to you. No more kids. We'll just raise people on a case-by-case basis; those who deserve to get into the Pantheon. And Helios is right. No more whole Favors.

Hrairday

ZEUS

Well I don't want anything more from you. That mortal was delicious! Ha!
Still, I agree about the apotheosis: It is too powerful a thing to be handled as lightly as we had been. We should put better roleplaying and more thought into each choice we make, and try not to do it with contracts and stupidness.
I'm not promising to never use a 1.0 ZeusFavor ever again, though. Might come in handy someday.

Hapday

HELIOS

I am promising exactly that. I think it's best to set a precedent, so as to prevent blackmail. I'm going to pay the DM to enforce a contract whereby if I am ever led to give out 1.0 HeliosFavor under any sort of duress whatsoever, that he (the DM) should immediately remove all my Tiers and Domains and set me back to Hero Deity.
[pays cost]

Biday

DM

It shall be done. The contract is in effect instantly, though you (Helios) may recall it by this coming Hrairday if you wish.

Biday

ZEUS

I'm taking the route with Rhea that doesn't end in something terrible happening to me.
[pays Norn Favor to raise a Campaign God]
Rhea, he's ready.

Triday

ARES

Hail Zeus! I am Expletivine Ares! Wielder of the Nine Spears of the Arcane!
[pays DM Favor to buy War domain and Item]

It is my duty to assail anyone who needs assailing! And fuck everyone else's opinion!

Triday

ZEUS

Haha! A boisterous little bugger, isn't he.

Tetday

RHEA

Welcome home. I hope you will one day come to see me as your "true" mother.

Tetday

ARES

By the Nine Spears of the Arcane! You are no mother of mine! You are the betrayer of my father!

I must punish you somehow!

I attack Rhea's Culet, Poseidon! He will be good practice.

Tetday

RHEA

Come off it! That's no way to play. Poseidon can't even give you any Favor; Culet Favor can't transfer upon death.

Pentday

ARES

I do not attack him for profit. I attack him for vengeance. I kill so many of his servants that his seas turn to blood, choking him, then I run him through with spear after spear!

Pentday

RHEA

Not only is that a terribly rude move, it's stupid as well. You don't gain anything, you might lose, and furthermore I will hunt you down afterwards if you do it!

Hexday

ARES

Back, woman! I am called to do this!
I will pay the DM to fill in any slots I'm missing.
[pays DM Favor]
And my magic will convert any decorative statues into my warriors?

I go for the kill!

Heptday

RHEA

Poseidon knows the ways of the sea. You will be harassed at every turn as he evades you time and again. As he is weightless under water and swift on his mighty tentacled underbody, you will tire long before he does.
Furthermore, he can read the currents of the sea - not only will he enchant them to turn against you, but they will bring him news of your coming at every turn.

I think it would be fitting if we all came together in counsel to decide if Ares is right in this. Perhaps we should all ally together, and punish his actions. I hereby call all gods who are not fully chaotic in nature to this council. Sound off if you are here, and state your position.

I hold that Expletivine Ares is foolish, overwhelmed with false pride, and vicious. I hold that he must be suitably punished for this by common consensus, so that he will be a more compatible god in the future.

Hrairday

ZEUS

I don't know, you did betray me. However, as he asked no one's help, not even mine (who might conceivably be on his side), I think you are right that he deserves punishment for his stupidity. Something small, maybe, to teach him to be a better son.

Hrairday

GAIA

I have returned at Rhea's request to cast my vote. I move that Ares be punished by DEATH - though this world is no longer truly mine, I think it best to set this example for ANY who seek to arrive at similar conclusions.

Hrairday

AIDES

I oppose...on obvious grounds.

Hapday

GAIA

These grounds are not obvious to me. State them plainly! Make them more obvious.

Hapday

AIDES

I am the caretaker of the... resurrected dead. Ares seeks only to... increase my stocks, and thus I ally with him... on this basis.
I do agree that he is foolish, and would not mind eventually claiming his... departed soul if my brother Zeus does not want it.

Biday

HELIOS

I will speak in favor of curtailing Ares' rampage. I'm going to ally with Rhea/Gaia.

Triday

RHEA

Gaia and I are not in agreement, Helios. I wish to teach my stepson a lesson, while she wishes to kill him!

Triday

HELIOS

Then let me propose this compromise. If Ares backs down he gets the lash of Rhea to stop him from doing it again. Then all is forgiven and he starts over and tries a new shtick.
If he won't back down we go with Gaia's plan.

Tetday

RHEA

Ok, if he doesn't back down with all of us allied against him, he's too dumb to live. I agree.
Zeus, I'll give you the other half of your Favor back if you agree with this plan of Helios'.

Tetday

HELIOS

Actually...

I think part of the rules should be that we don't use Favor during this meeting. We want to come to a truly good decision. Bribes shouldn't be necessary.

Pentday

RHEA

You really want to kill everything we do with Favor, don't you?

Hexday

HELIOS

Not even close. But here it has no place. No Favor is to change hands with respect to this decision. Who is with me on that?

Hexday

ZEUS

Hear, hear!

Heptday

RHEA

No need for a vote, I'll agree. Sigh.

Heptday

GAIA

It's a good decision though.

Hrairday

ZEUS

I like both plans of Helios'.

Hrairday

ARES

I think you're all doomed to fail! I won't back down.

Hrairday

AIDES

It's a good compromise. Ares, will you back down?

Hrairday

ARES

What did I just say, Grey One? Are your powers of hearing failing with age?

Hapday

AIDES

Merely a... coincidence that we both spoke up at the same... instant. It is worth asking again anyway.

Biday

ARES

Well, no, I won't! I won't back down. I continue my pursuit of Poseidon.

Triday

POLYPHEMUS

Sorry I'm late, errybody. Zeus sent me a message and I did come as quick-like as I could.

Tetday

AIDES

And what is your...opinion...on all this?

Tetday

POLYPHEMUS

Oh, o' course I'm in agreement with what erryone else is decidin'. I'll loan Poseidon a few lightnin' bolts that he can fire from his trident.

Zeus, lead us into battle!

Tetday

ZEUS

You got it, Cyclops.
We know that Ares is a fool, so we simply play off his weakness and allow him to get too close to someone's blade. Gaia and Rhea turn the very earth to our cause, Polyphemus is chief quartermaster, and Aides and I will summon legions of the dead that Ares killed for a final poetic justice.

Hexday

Nice.

Hexday

Hexday

Ares rolls 9.

Hexday

You are executed. Death is not official until Hrairday.

Hexday

HELIOS

A moment of silence while Ares is converted into mere hit dice of soul and out of respect for what this united council has achieved.

Let's put the Favor from Ares' pockets into a common pool for if we need something like this again. Agree?

Heptday

POLYPHEMUS

Or we could give it to me an' I could craft somethin' useful.

Heptday

RHEA

What if we spent it to set up safe havens for people like poor Poseidon, picked on by warmongering and stronger gods? If Polyphemus would like to lend a hand in the construction of some city gates, I'd like to set up a Refractive Facet where people can go for sanctuary. I'll donate some of my own stocks of DM Favor.

Geez, we need 60. I've got 15 and Ares had how much?

Heptday

ZEUS

Another 15. Halfway there. What rules would you set up in the Facet?

Hrairday

POLYPHEMUS

I can donate 10, if I like the rules you come up with.

Hrairday

HELIOS

I'll match Polyphemus.

Hrairday

RHEA

Ten short. What if we made it so that you cannot be attacked by gods of higher Tier? In the thread we established. You'd be bound to only have reach within that thread, but couldn't be attacked by anyone of higher Tier. And there will be a decent, well-armed army standing by to preserve peace from the lower Tiers who might enter. Each Inclusion inside commands an equal fraction of the army.

Hrairday

POLYPHEMUS

I like that idea. Let's try to set 'un up for Campaing gods an' one for Heroes once we sponsor some.

Hapday

ZEUS

I'll provide the final 10, if we set up the Campaign version first.

Biday

RHEA

Awesome. Transfer the Favor over to me; I'll do it. I am creating a Refractive Facet called the Campaign God Citadel. All who enter are safe from attacks by anyone of any Tier other than Campaign God (Pavilion).

[pays DM Favor]

Biday

DM

And because it is a Facet all to itself, those inside will not be able to reach outside of that Facet. If they do anything outside of the Campaign God Citadel, they will be vulnerable until the week rolls over, as other gods can say an attack is aimed at that moment in time.

[transfers Favor]

Tetday

The Refractive Facet known as the Campaign God Citadel has been created.

Pentday

AIDES

Helios, there is a.... challenger from Zeus' campaign. He has been waiting for a chance to challenge a god. When he learned that you had ....taken up... music, well, it must be said he leapt at the opportunity. He wishes to have a competition between you and he on your respective instruments. I am taking my chariot up to the overworld to judge the competition. The format will be...sudden death.

Hexday

HELIOS

Well, I'd be willing, but - does he realize that a god is going to have more ability (Zeus is using d20, right, so it'd be ranks?) than a mortal, no matter how good?

Hexday

AIDES

From what I hear, this man is...unique...in his acquisition of power.

Hexday

ZEUS

Indeed, I may have erred in letting the man, he goes by Marshgas, achieve what he has achieved. We're going to use this contest as something of an unbiased decider of whether man is too swollen. If he wins, he keeps his broken powers and the campaign is changed drastically. If he loses, he goes back to 10th level as he was before the incident. Either way, I'm sure he's going to be influencing hundreds of people to forsake their alignments.

Hexday

HELIOS

OK. I still agree.

Hexday

ZEUS

He plays extraordinarily well. Supernaturally so. You see, Marshgas found this trick where he drowns again and again, instantly, an infinite number of times - and an item he has turns his pain into skill ranks. Or something. So he has infinite skill ranks in all the skills. A dumb little trick, but not knowing better I allowed it. Plus he started with a level adjustment: he's actually a djinni. So there you have it. Marshgas would play the flute like someone with infinite ranks in Perform (flute). He plays a song so happy it brings tears to the eyes of even the gods. The rules recommend that a Perform check of more than 35 has a chance to attract the attention of the gods, and his check result is...infinity?

For reference, he rolled a natural 18 (on a 20 sided die).

Heptday

HELIOS

On my harp I play to match him. I play with divine privilege a power the gods have which is superior to even an infinitely trained mortal. I play a song that moves the clouds from the sky and my chariot of the dying sun streaks past, my horses gladdened for once by my song.

As a god I automatically max die rolls. I have no idea what ranks I'd be expected to have.

Hrairday

ZEUS

That's the thing. In D&D, ranks don't come cheaply. A typical adventurer only gets maybe +10 on a skill, and that will go up very slowly, by ones and twos every level. Levels come maybe every other session. A god would be expected to have only 100 ranks. The Omniscifer here has infinite. Not unlimited, either, but infinite.

Hrairday

DM

At the same time, Helios has 1 level of second Tier music domain. Zeus' Marshgas player has no levels of any domains. Truly, Aides will have to judge.

Hrairday

HELIOS

For starters I want a full description of this trick of his. It doesn't sound like it should be allowed. Surely he's bending the rules of your system?

Hrairday

ZEUS

Yes. We're using this contest to decide his fate. Aides is the judge, for neutrality purposes.

Hapday

AIDES

My ear not being...trained...to music to such a caliber, I'm hearing a tie. I like this Marshgas' trick though. I think I would allow it, were one of my players so clever as to come up with it.

Biday

ZEUS

I think he found it online actually.

Triday

HELIOS

As it's a tie I declare that this next round be a trick round. Each must hold his instrument upside down and sing.
I sing a tale of how fickle the sun is coming out just enough to grant a tiny touch of life to crops, though always little enough that the fruiting of those crops is in doubt a mystery of survival to be solved every year. Ahhhhh.

Tetday

ZEUS

Haha! That's a trick even a djinni won't be able to do with the flute, Aides! Marshgas' best trick is to lure children from towns into swamps. Useful, I'll give him that, but not so versatile an instrument as a harp. I think you should declare Helios the winner.

Tetday

AIDES

Ah...but you are biased. That is the whole idea, is it not? Therefor I have this compromise to offer. Helios, your song pleases me. I declare you the winner for your wisdom and trickery. Marshgas, I have a...victory...of a different sort for you. You will become a Hero Deity and be brought up here, out of Zeus' campaign world where you are making things difficult. I like the...style you portray.

[pays Norn Favor]

Pentday

ZEUS

Works for me.

Pentday

IBLIS

Am I the only Hero Deity here? The only one raised from a worthy mortal?

[pays DM Favor for a Smoke domain]

Hexday

ZEUS

Well, we have had many heroes on the mortal realms. Rarely do we take one here to live forever.

And tensions make it difficult for me and Rhea to introduce any more campaign gods, and no one else really seems interested in the process, so as far as new membership goes we've been pretty stagnant since Ares turned out to suck.

Hexday

IBLIS

And of course, there is a haven for the mighty Campaign Gods but none for a poor Hero Deity.

Truly, the Gods of the Mountain have fallen into a pitiable state. Have you noticed? You're becoming watered down. You killed off the Steepest Gods, you bred with mortals, you've wounded yourself right in the purity. It'll be weeks before any of you can afford to recover from this, and by then your foolish minds will have you sitting in a pit of thousands of wimply little half-gods.

Heptday

ZEUS

What do you want us to do about it? That's just the way it goes.

Heptday

IBLIS

Band together! Raise me! It is certainly much cheaper for you to bring me to the level of Campaign God than for you to raise yourselves to Steep or to Worldcrafter.

Heptday

AIDES

The... man... has a point.

Heptday

ZEUS

No he doesn't! He's just wants a shortcut to more power he doesn't have to earn.

Heptday

AIDES

Then make him earn it. Iblis! It was I who first sponsored you to join us as was your....privilege. I act mostly alone. If you will take for yourself the task of creating a Hamlet of Heroes, a place of refuge for the...legions of spectral gods I plan to bring to bear soon, soon, soon, then I will sponsor your ascension to the rank of Campaign God. The...terms...are these. I will pay the difference you lack to becoming Campaign God. You will give me .75 Iblis Favor, and you will spend any Favor you do not need to stay alive on creating a lower-Tier equivalent to the Campaign God Citadel. I will have the Diamond Master witness our contract.

Hrairday

ZEUS

Why would you even bother doing that? It's basically what he wants. Free.

Hrairday

AIDES

There are always more...benefits to an alliance than merely what it says in the... covenant.

Hrairday

IBLIS

I accept. All that it states and all that it implies.

[transfers Favor]

Hrairday

[transfers DM Favor]

With your new income levels you'll be much better suited to becoming my ally and to raising a place of shelter.

Hrairday

IBLIS

Already, I am set for this task, and equal in the eyes of our contract. A free man.
However, I make the Hamlet of Heroes in my own image: There, the thatch roofs are bedecked with coal-black roosters, who call out dirges. The streets are unpleasantly stenched, but the gold calls...and calls... for there are riches scattered throughout the place. And the heroes, though safe from direct attack by their superiors, they'll hear my whispers when I call...
[pays Favor]

Other than that, it can follow the same rules as the Campaign Citadel.

Hrairday

RHEA

Iblis. You are one fiendish man. Remind me never to let you gain any more power than you already hold.

Hrairday

AIDES

Iblis... now everyone can see the power of the thing you have wrought. It can be not just a stronghold, but also....a prison. We will make these...heroes...fear to come out of their pitiful village.

From the dead Zeus has been sending me, I am elevating three of the most powerful to the rank of Hero Deity (Culet) and one to Campaign God (Culet). The...One is Erinyes, the... tormentor of those who are not among the dead. The three are a trio of demons: Labasu, Labartu, and Akhkhazu. All three are various forms of plague demons...renders of heroes...monstrosities of teeth... and bone... and hair...

[pays Norn Costs]

Hrairday

IBLIS

I can afford a Culet as well. Welcome, Gunun, demon of madness, to our service.
[pays Norn Cost]

I send Gunun to patrol around inside the Hamlet I just made, shouting for Tartarus to come and "sanctify" the place.

Hapday

RHEA

Ah, ah! He can't get in. His rank is Culet-Inclusion, not Inclusion. The rules make it clear they're distinct.

Hapday

IBLIS

Oh, is that true? Well, I suppose it's more in keeping with Aide's plan to patrol the borders of the Refractive Facet. Everyone inside can hear the cries of Gunun, roaring madly and flying into dark tangents on the exact limits of comprehension and cohesion.

My armies of lesser demons pound the pavement relentlessly in search of unguarded defenses to convert to rabble.

Hapday

AIDES

The Trio and Erinyes add muscle to this patrol.

Hapday

IBLIS

Sessile Tartarus! Appear before us now! Give us assistance in our course of madness!

Hapday

HELIOS

The greying sun appears above the Hamlet as I drive the chariot overhead. I don't know what side I'm on but I am watching, citizenry.

Iblis if you read carefully you can see that the rules for the Refractive Facet are not that only Pavilion Tiers can enter but that no god of higher Tier can enter. So Gunun could get in but might be destroyed.

Hapday

RHEA

What of the Council? What are we going to do about this?

Biday

HELIOS

I think the Council should stay out of private battles. Truly the thing is made of good participants and evil ones. That is what makes it so powerful. If you think about it from a utilitarian destruction point of view you are helping everyone by catering to the benefit of both sides.

Biday

ZEUS

Rhea! Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Triday

IBLIS

Thank you, Grey Helios. I won't risk it - this plan is just fine. If anyone comes out to destroy Gunun, they'll be torn to shreds by the Culet army.

Triday

RHEA

I'm not thinking about sex, so probably not. What are you thinking?

Tetday

ZEUS

We have a bunch of children to counter the Culet swarms! Real Heroes, who outrank the Culet-Inclusions!

Pentday

RHEA

Wait you really were thinking about sex? hahaha

Pentday

ZEUS

It's a great idea though! It doesn't matter that they're watered down, like Iblis says. This is a time for numbers, like Grey Aides says!

Hexday

RHEA

You forget that I'm never letting you touch me again.

Hexday

ZEUS

That's still stupid! But not actually important to the matter at hand. It's not the method it's the result. Think like a utilitarian, am I right, Helios?

Heptday

RHEA

Some other way to have children?

Hrairday

ZEUS

Don't be a moron. We'll find some deserving heroes on the mortal planes (not the World of Darkness OBVIOUSLY) and raise them up into the heavens as demigods!

Hrairday

RHEA

Ok. One of the first should be a counter to Iblis. A Lawful Good.

Hrairday

ZEUS

I'll run a test in my campaign.

Hrairday

HELIOS

I am going to build a great hall quartered on the border of my demesne. It can be used as the council building with plenty of comfortable seats and expandable walls decked in gold. The entrance will be an enormous hearth fireplace of fine mahogany that never burns. The building is fortified and soundproofed and employs an army of heralds on winged shoes.

Hapday

ZEUS

Having trouble finding good-aligned people in my campaign...

Biday

DM

Zeus, your dead are piling up in the afterworld. This is not according to plan for you, and you suspect foul play.

Biday

ZEUS

Aides! What are you doing with my realms! Jealous? I'll still sell you that domain, if that's what you're after. But I'm doing it on my terms.

Can you describe the pileup in more detail? I check all the facts. Has input increased? Has cataloguing been altered somehow?

Triday

DM

Upon further inspection, you realize that many of these dead are not from your campaign world. Asking around, you realize that the dead are not from the campaign worlds of anyone on the Mount, nor any member of the Council, nor anyone you have talked to.

Furthermore, the keenest of your sentries report seeing strange black rippling circles on the border of the input portals to your afterworld.

Tetday

ZEUS

Well, I suppose that's more profit for me when I sell the tithe to Aides. Let them come. I tell the sentry to keep an eye on the ripples or his life is forfeit. Then I promptly forget the whole episode. I have more important things to worry about.

Helios, would you be willing to do me a favor? I need something of an unbiased opinion or selection thing. Can you dredge the Aides campaign world for a single good-aligned, roughly humanoid being?

Pentday

HELIOS

I upgrade my Sun domain make room for another domain and since I've been enjoying the reputation for neutrality lately I will purchase a Power domain which I'll upgrade to level 2.

Zeus, I will do my best. Naturally, I'll expect you to owe me a favor...

Hexday

ZEUS

You got it. 0.25 upon successful completion. 0.10 for making the attempt.

Heptday

RHEA

This isn't really going as well as I had hoped. What if he brings back an undead?

Heptday

ZEUS

...And no undead!

Hrairday

HELIOS

I am back. Really you are looking in the wrong place. The PCs are corrupt and even the human chattel have fallen into an immoral despair. Here is the closest thing I can find:

There is a small cult of human chattel who worship a god called "Jehovat." Supposedly this god is lawful good. In reality, it is a machine, a great furnace which is fueled by animal sacrifice to peform minor but benevolent local miracles. Perhaps one of those worshippers could be called foolishly Good? One of the PCs is a turncoat version too named Elijah. His resolve is what I would most call into question.

And no he is not undead.

Hrairday

RHEA

I have an even better idea. Zeus darling, let us raize the machine to a true god status, a transformation by belief. That will give us our fighter and even a gateway into fighting the evil of Grey Aides' world.

Hrairday

ZEUS

Sounds good on paper, but the machine is an NPC. We'd need to find a player.

Hrairday

RHEA

Ok, so let's make him a Culet campaign god, and start to work on the worshipper.
Aides, I want you to send this message to Elijah in a dream:
"Elijah,
I am Arcane Jehovat. You have been false to me! A traitor!
Yet it was your ministration in part which has made me powerful, and so I offer you this second chance. You must become my prophet, and bring my word to the darkened chattel of the World. In return, I will spare your life. Furthermore I will give you great power to prove what you say. You will be stronger than the others in your party, even the Nosferatu. You must strictly abide by the Code of Good and the laws of Arcane Jehovat!"

Zeus, you need to work up a bargain with Aides about the apotheosis of this furnace machine.

Hapday

AIDES

This sounds like a good...challenge...a test of the...true colors of Elijah. I have brought an immortal god up from your campaign world. You may bring this petty machine up from mine, and you should call it...a bargain.

As for the mortal, it will be his decision. But I will not allow him to become a ... martyr. He won't be destroying his party...he won't be shredded by them to the outrage of the other...chattel. You will bring him straight here and have my permission to do so.

Biday

ZEUS

Sure, I'll accept. Rhea, I need a little more Norn Favor. Do you have any? I can do one but not the other.

Biday

RHEA

This is my new purpose. I will convert my DM Favor into Norn Favor for this purpose.
[exchanges DM Favor for Norn Favor]
[transfers to Zeus]

Triday

ZEUS

[pays Norn Favor]
Behold, Arcane Jehovat, my fiery servitor on the World of Darkness!

Triday

IBLIS

Will there be no response from Sessile Tartarus? Why do you not show your might? Are you content to gnaw the bones of the old triumphs you have had? Why has the world not heard from you?

Triday

AIDES

Erinyes joins in these...futile cries.
Labasu, Labartu, and Akhkhazu do not, but they begin sowing marshes of tepid, disease-ridden water all around the borders of the Hamlet. Only the very most...capable...of heroes can get in or out through that direction.

Elijah, that... foul traitor, has condemned the...noble...Nosferatu as worshippers of false gods, stirring up trouble among the chattel. The dust of battle stirs among the slag heaps of my world. He is on your side....Zeus. Get him out of here...now!

Tetday

ZEUS

No problem, Aides. I send a thundering chariot to descend from the sky, pick up Elijah in a whirlwind, and make it clear that he is ascending!

[pays DM cost for Artifact]

Ha!

Pentday

AIDES

No! I reach out to stop this...misplaced effort at glory.

Hexday

ZEUS

You invited me in. Sky is my domain. It's over as far as Elijah is concerned.

Hexday

AIDES

Fine...I choose not to...contest the issue.

As an... update... the PCs are, firstly, jealous that Elijah has godlike powers now. I have convinced them that the gods of other worlds are players of favorites, injust larcenous cretins.

Hexday

HELIOS

What about I? did you say those horrible things about me as well? I'm not the god of another world.

Heptday

AIDES

No, the only... impact on you is from that little... escapade with the chariot of the sun. Luzille recognizes I think that the...disaster... is her own fault. Largely.

Hrairday

ELIJAH

I am Elijah, the messenger god! Zeus brought me up here to the Hamlet of Heroes. I've read this forum and I will assure you all that I am not going to repeat the mistake of Ares. No, I know my enemy, it's Iblis, and I'll only attempt to thwart him through reasonable means with less risk.

Firstly, I will buy a Weather domain, representing my thundering chariot. Which I will loan to worthy heroes in the Hamlet, where I won't hide out, so they can get across the marshes.

Also I want a Sight domain.

[pays DM costs]

Polyphemus, you've maybe built up some resources since you have been on last? Maybe you can forge a barrel of winged horseshoes for the horses of the Heroes?

Hrairday

AIDES

Polyphemus has been...languid...too long. Iblis, Helios, will you join me in destroying him? He is more powerful...but we have more resources.

With Iblis as a scout, I will secretly poison the... fuel of Polyphemus' forge. All of it. Even if Polyphemus sees me, I will leave him little...choice...but to destroy himself or be kept from his craft.

Hrairday

IBLIS

Sure, I will scout. Gunun will create multiple illusions of me here.

Hrairday

HELIOS

I'm not getting involved directly but I will bring the sun wheeling around to obscure everything with brightness. Things are finally becoming exciting here and I'm stoking my own furnace.

Hapday

IBLIS

Hehe, stoking your own furnace.

Hapday

HELIOS

Aside from the obvious dirty reference Polyphemus is really a competitive furnace god as is Arcane Jehovat. I will not be an ally of Aides but I'll be a hindrance to Polyphemus.

Grey Aides, cloaked in shadow and hidden from the sun-ravaged red eye of Polyphemus, sneaks into the forge and poisons the great coke heaps. We shall see what choice Polyphemus makes.

/msg Polyphemus: Your decision is needed for the Norns, the Lady, and myself to decide your fate. Please respond in a timely manner. This is your 1st warning.

/msg Zeus: You repeatedly notice strange internal earthquakes in the structure of the Mountain built by your mother and father. The demons of Gunun, Iblis, and Aides stamp to a similar rhythm. The belches from the mountain become greater with each passing year. Your campaign world feels it too, trembling in time with the mountain's great roots.

/msg Aides, Iblis: Your minions seem to be forming new micro-cultures as they run the siege. They evolve ever-wilder chants and cadences, dark marches which shiver you straight to the astralstuff in your bodies.

Hapday

ELIJAH

Foul play. Wow.

I will warn Polyphemus of this attempt on his life, having spotted it on my way there in my chariot to commission the winged horseshoes. Let him make his own decision. I didn't realize he'd been entirely inactive for so long.

Biday

ZEUS

I need the advice of the Council. Aides and Iblis (and Gunun, Erinyes, etc) are trying to betray me on the highest level. Watch their demons! They tromp to the same beat as my new problem, which is a chronic quaking of the earth of the mountain!

Biday

Tetday

This is a different problem! They are trespassing into my campaign world without permission!

We need a truthseer goddess. Someone with the power to tell when someone is lying. Why does no one have a truth domain?

Tetday

ZEUS

That's part of why we want to sponsor many new gods, isn't it, dear?

Tetday

IBLIS

I have the power to tell when someone is lying.

Pentday

RHEA

Shut up, Iblis.

Pentday

HELIOS

If Iblis and Aides have indeed forcibly entered another campaign world it should be considered a severe transgression. Especially since they did not restrict themselves to proper domains like they would need to even if they had permission.

Pentday

SESSILE TARTARUS

The fault lies not with Aides and Iblis, nor their Culets. It is a fault in the tectonics of the Diamond itself - an attuned vibration experiment by a new sort of god who threatens even my position. I warn you - you must investigate other Facets, explore a great many options, and find this threat. Show no mercy. Begin a Jihad against that meddling, tampering source - it's the only way to avoid a fate worse than Chaos.

Pentday

AIDES

...

Pentday

RHEA

Tartarus? how do we know we can trust you? I think we have every reason not to.

Hexday

DM

Polyphemus stands still, difficult decisions burning trails in his neural pathways. The slow poison works its way into his body, thickly burning smoke from his fuel supply darkening the air. But Polyphemus is a Giant, a Titan, and one who has experimented in strange crafts. The poison reacts oddly, and a hair more quickly than normal.

Aides, you return to investigate the activities of Polyphemus - and find him paralyzed still, forever, his skin and bones hardened into a single collossus of marble.

Zeus, you are haunted by dark visions, always floating around the corners of your eyes. They seem to duck in and out of the craggy places on the mountain...especially in the period immediately after a quake.

Hexday

AIDES

I pursue the Polyphemus....affair...no longer.

Heptday

HELIOS

I suspect Tartarus is the sort despite a shared interest to merely state his contribution and move on.

Hrairday

ZEUS

This has to be the number one priority here. Helios, make me a bright light to carry with me.
Elijah, I want you to accompany me after one of these seismic events and post a heavy guard.
Rhea, buffs on my sight.
And I will be smoooothing out the mountain, carefully eroding away the crags with winds carrying dust. Aaand the occasional thunderbolt.

Hrairday

RHEA

You jump at shadows.

Hrairday

ELIJAH

Don't be too sure. It will be as you command, Zeus. I advise everyone to take this threat seriously. What could Tartarus' motives be?

Hrairday

HELIOS

Here I have crafted a staff which draws fuel from my furnaces. I don't have enough DM Favor to make it Artifact level but it is certainly a domain function.

Hapday

ZEUS

I'll give you enough DM Favor if you join me on the roll against these horrid skulking thrice-damned...

Biday

HELIOS

Deal.

Triday

ELIJAH

I would bet my golden boots that your threat is not something that can be attacked directly.

Tetday

ZEUS

[transfers Favor]

Pentday

HELIOS

[pays DM Favor - crafts Staff of the Furnace]
[transfers Staff to Zeus]
The power of this SunStaff is that it can channel the debt of the holder. It glows more brightly and strikes more potently when its holder has more of their own Favor loaned out.

Pentday

ZEUS

Thanks. I'm parading around with this held high until this gets solved, pointing it at any shadow. It is glowing rather brighter than I'd like at the moment....

As you walk out onto the sweet fields of the mountain, the ground feels strangely soft beneath the soles of your feet, like tilled earth right after a rain. The smell, however, is unlike that of fertile farmland - instead, it is the stench of a thousand tons of sick flesh. Boulders at the peak of the mountain rumble furiously before coming ratcheting down the mountain like a storm's wake.

Those at the base notice only that something is impeding the occasional boulder, giving the crashing monoliths the briefest pause before allowing it to roll on again. Those who move higher up see desiccated mortal bodies shambling over the cliffside, mindlessly stumbling into the path of the avalanche. The spirits are clearly riven from their host bodies - indeed, the lost, wandering spirits are far more numerous than the bodies of those who died in shame. You recognize racial features of the nigh-immortals of Aides' World of Darkness mixed with the walking dead bodies of Arcane Zeus' home campaign.

They come from a tortured cloven rockface, climbing from a dark crevasse in what is soon to be a mountain of fire. Uncaring fingers drive themselves into the Steep rock, possessed by a horrid energy, a sort of antithesis to the life-giving Eitr at world's formation. It radiates out and burns a terrible itching scorch onto the skins of gods and demons. Gunun begins a horrible wailing, and is joined by the Erinyes. All divine and mortal flesh on this Immortal Facet is bleached and reddened. The borders of the fracture in the mountain echo this change, swirling and softening into a hazy plane of transition.

More wounds open all over the plane, just as numerous as on the mountain. Animal, vegetable, mineral, and diamond fall through with tortured inanimate screeches. Near the right hand of each god a hole opens in the aether of the atmosphere. Dead spirits swarm through at relativistic diving speeds. You observe that these pits lead into the affiliated mortal Facets, the campaign worlds associated with each god. Other wounds lead into other Facets at random. Some are temporary, flashes of searing change that slice entrants in half. Others become permanent scars in the adamas of the Diamond, gates that will exist forever.

And then the mountain becomes an inferno. Flames leap out in all directions and rise into the sky, all in sunburst formation, creating a fiery mane of flametongue over the whole Facet, where it lingers like the persistent afterimage which brands your divine eyes.

Dead swarm over the earths you rule, infecting the populated areas and terrorizing farmers.
[spoiler]These undead should not exceed 150% of the appropriate challenge for any player character in a campaign world[/spoiler]

Zeus, your roster of the dead in your service contains only negligible counts. Aides, your income of dead from Zeus slows to a trickle.

Earthquakes continue to scar the land, air, and sea, threatening mortals and divine.

Hrairday

AIDES

A....fantastic...job, Zeus, brother.

Hrairday

ZEUS

Ha! Isn't it? Well! Nothing for it! Grab a buddy and flee! Hahahahaha!

Hrairday

AIDES

This is the solution from the...leader...of the gods?

Hapday

ZEUS

Ha! Leader and father, that's me!

Biday

HELIOS

I think our lord and father Zeus has gone a touch mad.

I grab the staff from him thinking he is not going to be using it. I'll pin him down if I have to I am willing to initiate combat. If I get it I will hold it high and lead everyone through one of the gaps and motion if it is safe to continue.

Triday

ZEUS

Ha, that thing? It didn't do anything! Following you, Grey Helios!

Triday

DM

Helios, you enter a stable-looking rend in the universe. Shadows swarm about the boundary line as you step through. They do not flinch at the light from your staff.

The place does not appear hostile - it is simply a gleaming field of adamas. Near you, it reflects the firelight of the mountain's immenent destruction.

As Zeus attempts to follow, the portal glows blue and fades to a solid rock wall.

Tetday

ZEUS

That doesn't cause any problems. I'll just pick another and hop through! If it closes, I'll just keep trying other portals.

Pentday

RHEA

Zeus! Wait! I try to follow and take care of Zeus. I will run through his portal as quickly as possible. If that doesn't work, I'll stick my head in as many others as I can find, looking for where he might have ended up.

Pentday

IBLIS

Aides?

Pentday

ELIJAH

This is bigger than any of us. Stick together as much as possible. That includes you, Aides, Iblis. Tartarus says this isn't just some petty trick. This is the start of a bigger threat.
Zeus! Right behind you!

Hexday

IBLIS

Ok, agreed. Aides, ally, you should try it too.

Hexday

DM

You notice that all the portals give off the same blue glow upon being entered. Some close after being entered or even before anyone can squeeze through them. Elijah is nearly decapitated as he passes through immediately after Zeus. Do you try another?

Rhea, this does not seem like a wise course of action to you.

Heptday

ELIJAH

Yes, of course. They're all linking to the same place? How strange.

Hrairday

STEEP NORNS

This was not our doing.

Hrairday

AIDES

It...it ends. I am ready to...abandon this Facet. I hustle the demon allies through a random portal and follow myself. I take my time. Stately, well-dressed, prepared for...the worst.

Hrairday

RHEA

I'm desperate. I'm not taking the chance that I might be separated, right as my husband needs me most - his moments of madness.

Hrairday

DM

[submits roll]
Rhea, make a defensive roll as the gate comes slicing closed.

Hapday

RHEA

[submits roll]

Biday

THE LADY

The Diamond Master rolls 14.
Rhea rolls an 8.

Biday

DM

As the world begins collapsing around you, Rhea, you desperately leap for any rend in the fabric of the Diamond. Carefully, cautiously, you take just a little too much time and the gate winks out of existence like a ruptured soap bubble - taking the top of your skull with it. Your brainpan is exposed to the soot. You feel weak, and around you reality threatens to disappear into the Chaos only Sessile Tartarus can hope to weather.
